Do's And Don'ts For Diamond Care

Diamond is the hardest substance of Earth, but it needs a little extra care and love to ensure it shines like the first day you bought it. Everyday exposure to skin creams, oils, soaps, household chemicals and other substances can reduce the sparkle and brilliance of your diamond jewellery. A few Do's and Don'ts are listed here that will help you to keep the sparkle of your diamonds forever.

Do:
  • Clean your diamond regularly. Take an ammonia-based cleaner or baking soda and scrub using soft brush. Take extra care while cleaning the back of the diamond as this will be the area that collects most of the dirt and oil.
  • Take them to trusted and professional jeweller once a year to ensure the settings are intact and whole. A corroded, weak or damaged setting is the biggest enemy of any diamond jewellery like stud earring, diamond ring and solitaire pendants.
  • Keep your diamonds carefully when not using them. The best way to store them is to keep in a soft fabric lined container or box.

Don't:
  • Use harsh cleansers and harmful solutions. Chlorine or bleach should never be used on, or anywhere near, a diamond while cleaning. It can erode the setting and discolour the diamond.
  • Play too much. Though, it is difficult to keep from playing with it, all the natural oils from your figures can dull the brilliance.
  • Store the diamonds with other jewellery items.
  • Wear while doing household works and physical outdoor activities.
  • Leave it on a bookshelf, counter or next to a sink. There is a possibility that you may forget or misplace it.

Always keep it in mind that if you treat this valuable stone with extra amount of love and care, they will last much longer than you’d expect.
